Audi Q1 under consideration

According to a recent report, Audi is considering additional variants based on the A1.
As one source told What Car, "You've seen how our SUVs have been getting smaller - Q7, Q5, Q3 - and the A1 platform could go in that direction, but nothing is planned for the near future."
The latter comment is interesting, but previous rumors have suggested the crossover could be launched anywhere from 2013 to 2016.
Regardless, the insider said an A1 Cabriolet is unlikely because it would be positioned to close to the A3 Cabriolet.

New bi-turbo tdi packs even more punch into Audi A6 and A7 sportback

The most potent Audi V6 TDI ever to enter production powers executive class Audi models to 62mph in a fraction over five seconds and returns up to 44.1mpg

  • Advanced new biturbo TDI engine heads diesel line-up in A6 Saloon, Avant, allroad quattro and A7 Sportback ranges – OTR prices from £43,810
  • Available now in A6 Saloon and Avant and A7 Sportback, and later in 2012 in A6 allroad – first deliveries in spring
  • 313PS from 3,900-4,500rpm, 650Nm from 1,450 to 2,800rpm
  • A6 Saloon 3.0 BiTDI quattro – 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds, governed 155mph top speed, combined MPG 44.1, CO2 169g/km
  • Sound actuator in exhaust system accompanies remarkable performance with sports car exhaust note
Knockout punch in a velvet glove comes courtesy of a formidable new 313PS Audi Biturbo TDI engine, which is now available for A6 Saloon and Avant and A7 Sportback models. The new twin-turbo V6 is notable not only for being the most powerful six-cylinder diesel engine ever offered by the Vorsprung durch Technik brand, but also the sweetest-sounding. Available now in A6 models priced from £43,810 OTR, and from £51,645 OTR in the A7 Sportback, it combines trademark Audi TDI refinement with an exhaust-mounted sound actuator that enables it to deliver its mighty 650Nm output to the tune of a distinctly sporting soundtrack.
Slotting in above the single-turbo 204PS and 245PS versions of the 3.0 TDI that already feature in the A6 and A7 Sportback ranges, the latest V6 has a two-stage turbocharger group that delivers a maximum boost pressure of up to 3.2 bar, helping the A6 3.0 BiTDI quattro Saloon to lunge at the horizon and pass the 62mph marker in as little as 5.1 seconds, and the A6 Avant and A7 Sportback to do the same in just 5.3 seconds. An electronically limited top speed of 155mph is common to all versions.
Like the existing TDI engines, the new star performer is backed up by technologies from the Audi modular efficiency platform, including start-stop and recuperation systems and the innovative thermal management system that quickly brings the coolant and oil up to their operating temperatures. With their help, combined economy in A6 and A7 Sportback models is on an equal footing at 44.1mpg – an impressive figure given the high outputs and low acceleration times involved.

Sound actuator

Thanks to an innovative actuator in the auxiliary channel of the exhaust system, the BiTDI A6 and A7 Sportback models don’t sound like they should be capable of such level-headed economy figures. The actuator system essentially consists of a speaker which imposes a defined oscillation pattern on the exhaust flow and transforms the typical TDI exhaust note into a more sonorous roar that is closer to the output of a high-performance petrol engine.
Without exception, power is transmitted from the BiTDI engine via an eight-speed tiptronic transmission to the latest generation quattro all-wheel-drive system, which features a self-locking centre differential and torque vectoring for optimum traction and stability. A sport differential which distributes power in continuously variable proportions between the rear wheels is available from the options list to sharpen and quicken response even further.
The mighty new BiTDI engine is available in conjunction with SE and S line specification in the A6 Saloon, A6 Avant and A7 Sportback. The forthcoming A6 allroad quattro, due to open for order in February, will also offer this exceptional unit.
Stand-out features common to all these models include satellite navigation linked to a 6.5-inch retractable colour monitor, Milano leather upholstery, the Audi drive select adaptive dynamics system controlling throttle response, transmission shift points and steering feel, the Audi parking system plus, light and rain sensors, cruise control and keyless go push-button engine ignition.

The new Ferrari 458 Spider

Maranello, 23rd August – The new 458 Spider joins the 458 Italia, widening the range of Ferrari’s mid-rear engined V8s and offering the same uncompromising technological solutions, handling and performance in a refined open-top configuration. It is equipped with a Ferrari patented, fully retractable hard top, a world first for a sports car with this lay-out.

The 458 Spider is powered by Ferrari’s naturally-aspirated, direct-injection 4.5 litre V8 which was nominated as the 2011 International Engine of the Year for its engineering excellence in terms of driveability, performance, economy and refinement. The power is transferred to the road by Ferrari’s class-leading dual-clutch F1 paddle-shift transmission through the sophisticated E-Diff, itself integrated with the F1-Trac traction control and high-performance ABS for maximum handling dynamics.

Certain of the car’s features, such as its accelerator pedal mapping and the damping of the multilink suspension, have been calibrated to guarantee maximum sportiness and absolute driving pleasure with the top down, in line with Maranello’s exclusive spider tradition. Even the engine soundtrack has been honed to ensure that the car’s occupants are completely captivated by the drop-top driving experience.

Entirely in aluminium, the hard-top solution adopted for the 458 Spider offers a number of advantages over the traditional folding soft-top, including a reduction of 25 kg in weight and a deployment time of just 14 seconds. Fully integrated into the styling of the car, the hard-top was engineered to fit neatly ahead of the engine bay without compromising aerodynamics or the performance of the car. The small space needed to house the roof enables the designers to include a generous rear bench for luggage behind the seats.

The rear of the car is characterised by innovative forms with the buttresses designed to optimise the flow of air to the engine intakes and the clutch and gearbox oil radiators. For maximum comfort whilst driving top down the 458 Spider features a generously-sized adjustable electric wind stop. The design was perfected to slow and diffuse the air in the cockpit, enabling normal conversation to be held even at speeds over 200 km/h.

New technical solutions adopted for the chassis guarantee identical levels of structural rigidity with the roof up or down. The result is a car that is truly exciting to drive, blending extreme performance with the responsiveness that has always characterised Ferrari’s open-top berlinettas.

Chevrolet launches the upgraded 2012 Corvette

Chevrolet is about to make some improvement in the performance capabilities of the Corvette. The improvement is expected to be brought about by introducing a series of enhancements for the 2012 model year car. The enhancements have been decided upon with the objective to offer an on track performance and on road comfort, the quality of both of which would be better than the prevalent. The improvements on the performance are subtle and they concern the Z06 and ZR1 models. The rest of the lineup of Corvette also gets to receive upgrade in interior and equipment department though those are modest at best.
Among the features that are new to the 2012 MY Corvette include optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Zero Pressure tires. The tires would be available for the Z06 and the ZR1 versions that have a max power rating of 505 and 638 HP respectively. These competition based tires have increased cornering and handling capacity in the warm and dry conditions. These in combination with the Performance Traction Management technology or PTM are expected to offer a 8 percent gain in maximum lateral acceleration for the car, which is more than 1.1 g. Then there is a corresponding enhancement in braking performance as well with considerably shorter braking distances achieved.
The new Michelins finds its inclusion in the optional Z07 performance package for the Corvette Z06 and a new PDE performance package on the ZR1. The tires actually feature brand new wheels that flaunt the aluminum Cup-style. The wheels have either a satin black or machined finishes. The weight by which the wheels have gone lighter is about 5 pounds or 2.2 kgs though the strength has gone up in that it is now stronger than even a 20 spoke wheel.
There is yet another upgrade – the racing style spoiler that is part of both the Z07 and PDE packages. The Z06 will also get the Magnetic Selective Ride Control suspension technology and Brembo carbon ceramic brakes as part of the Z07 package. The optional extras that are further added make the inclusion of carbon fiber hood on the Z06 models and taller gearing for the ZR1 in 5th and 6th gear for an improvement of 2 mpg in the high way fuel economy rating.

As far as the inside of the car is concerned, all Corvette models of 2012 version will get new seat and steering wheel designs. Chevrolet describes the seats to have features like large bolsters and optional microfiber suede inserts. The bolsters contribute to the improvement in the lateral support. In addition to this, all models further receives contrasting color stitching that come in colors red, blue and yellow and padded center console and armrests.
Equipment levels of the car include the incorporation of a new Bose Audio System that has 9 speakers, 2 more than what was present in the 2011 version. The audio system is better tuned to the cabin’s acoustics. The 2LT trim level is said to be featuring new Technology Package that includes navigation, head up display, Bose premium audio system. In addition to all these, Bluetooth wireless phone connectivity and USB port will also be available in the coupe. After the long wait, the customers can finally make an option of choosing the braking caliper getting painted in red, yellow, silver or gray colors.
Production of the Corvette version 2012 begins in the month of July 2011.

2013 Chevrolet Corvette: here are more details that has emerged

There are many fans who have been waiting for quite sometime now for the grand launch of the Corvette C7. It has nothing to do with being hardcore Corvette fans, nor will the next Corvette be drastically enhanced in terms of technology or aesthetics. But the key thing is that with our growing awareness about our environment and its effects on our financial condition – all that we are curious to know is whether Chevrolet will get the hint and stop using the trade mark V8 engine. Tadge Juechter, the chief engineer at Chevrolet had revealed in a video a few months back of the Corvette being the company’s most favored product. This had led many to speculate that the next generation Chevrolet will continue its reliance on the V8 engine that made them famous, albeit with some modification that is necessary to keep pace with the times.
The 2013 Chevrolet Corvette – and not the 2011 edition as was earlier planned will have a 5.5 liter small block V8 engine under its hood in its front engine, rear wheel drive setup. The engine though will be more powerful in spite of its smaller volume, capable of churning out 440 hp. This is about 5 hp more than the 6.2 liter and 7.0 liter engines that the previous Corvettes dished out. The Corvette will now also have a better economy in terms of fuel performance while the engine will also feature a revised combustion system and aluminum block and heads.
We can say for certain that the engine will not be the only change about the new Corvette. For there are also rumors that the Chevrolet will at last raise the quality of the materials that is used in the sports car, which means an end to the almost incessant complains about poor quality of materials used for generations might finally comes to an end. The new Chevrolet sports car will see higher end seats that resemble bucket seats. If Chevrolet wishes to keep up with the times then they should definitely consider putting in high-tech features in the new Chevrolet. After all, if the Ford Focus is able to get technologically updated then we may expect better things from the Corvette as well.
Latest details about the new edition Corvette suggests that the car will have a European styled, small block, turbocharged V8 engine. The new engine will be a little bigger than the 3 liter displacement and will be of an overhead-cam design instead of the conventional overhead-valve design. A dry sump oil system that is friendly to the high performance road courses and not straight line acceleration capabilities will be used. We can expect to see an output of 125 Hp per liter and an overall of 400 HP. Seems like the Porsche 911 and the Lamborghini Gallardo have got a competitor.

Jaguar XF 2.2 Diesel Covers 816 Miles On One Tank: Forbidden Fruit

Before you get all excited about this report, note that there are no plans to bring the highly-efficient Jaguar XF 2.2 Diesel to the U.S., at least in this generation of the car. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, we can tell you that overseas buyers can enjoy a luxurious 2012 Jaguar XF sedan that’s capable of driving 816 miles on a single tank.

We’ve reported on the car several times before, namely, its 2.2-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine that’s rated at 190 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque and in the XF returns a combined fuel economy figure of 52.2 mpg.

Further improving efficiency, the new 2.2-litre engine is linked to ZF’s latest eight-speed automatic gearbox and an engine stop-start system--the first time such a device has been fitted to a Jaguar.

The XF 2.2 Diesel is no slouch either, able to dish off 0-60 times in the eight seconds bracket and top out at 140 mph.

Now, two brothers in the UK, David and Alexander Madgwick, managed to drive the car across four countries in Europe, taking in a mix of winding country roads, highways and dense urban traffic. In the end they used just under 17 gallons of diesel fuel, which took them the 816 miles from Birmingham in the UK to Munich, Germany. This equates roughly to an average fuel economy of 48 mpg.

Upcoming BMW M5 Is The Fastest Sedan Around Nürburgring

When it comes to gauging a car’s performance, most will look at figures like accelerations, top speed, skid-pad numbers, and braking distance. Manufacturers have another number in mind, especially when a performance car is involved: A Nürburgring Nordschleife Lap Time. A lap time of the 14 mile course measures all the performance factors of a car. Drivers may also experience a 1,000 foot elevation change and can even experience different weather patterns during one lap of the famed German Track.
The top-spots are normally occupied by race cars, but production cars enjoy some fast times too. While there are no exact categories for separating laps, manufacturers will group similar cars that compete in the same segment, like the Porsche GT2 RS and Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Another category that gets lumped together are four-door sedans, which the new BMW “F10” M5 dominates with a 7:55 lap. For comparison, it’s just as fast as a Ferrari F430, while the next quickest sedan, the Porsche Panamera Turbo is a second behind.
The F10 BMW M5 has lost the V-10 in favor of the twin-turbo 4.4L V-8 found in the X6 M and X5 M performance SUVs. This means that the car is producing 560 hp, 50 more horsepower than the old engine, and nearly eight-percent more torque lower in the rev-range. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission will be bolted to the back of the engine, but a six-speed manual will be available to enthusiasts who’d like to shift.
For now, BMW can claim they still offer the best new performance sedan on the market.

Nvidia iray and GPUs Supercharge Jeff Patton's Designs for Mercedes Benz

For a Mercedes Benz product visualization project, freelance computer graphics (CG) artist Jeff Patton leveraged the power of high-efficiency Nvidia iray rendering software and Nvidia Quadro and Tesla professional graphics processing units (GPUs) to supercharge both his artistry and efficiency.

Jeff Patton is a prolific, self-taught, freelance CG artist who has created mechanical illustrations for major companies, including Honeywell, Delta Controls, and Johnson Controls, among others. He is also a recognized expert in Autodesk 3ds Max 3D software and Nvidia mental ray rendering software, as well as an active beta tester who has taught an Autodesk Master Class and writes tutorials on techniques for using both software solutions effectively.

In early 2010, some photo-real vehicle renders that Patton had created caught the attention of Mercedes Benz USA (MBUSA), which approached him to develop images for its Web site and print advertising. He was given computer-aided design (CAD) data for each vehicle along with environmental backplates, and tasked with compositing CG vehicles into those backplates while accentuating the cars' curves via reflections and lighting. He knew that the images he created would need to be a blend of photorealism and studio imagery--cars that appear to be physically photographed, but which are touched by Patton's artistry in reflections and lighting and further refined by the talented staff at MBUSA to create the most appealing visual possible.

When he started the project, Patton was using 3ds Max software with mental ray and the Chaos Group V-Ray rendering engine on a CPU. Given the large file sizes he was working with and the amount of rendering that the images required, his work was slow going, with renders taking approximately an hour per image.
Patton believed that the high-efficiency Nvidia iray rendering software would be ideally suited for his Mercedes Benz product visualization project. As the first interactive, photo-realistic and physically correct rendering solution to leverage the power of Nvidia Quadro and Tesla professional graphics processing units (GPUs), the combination would supercharge both his artistry and efficiency. So he made the performance leap to iray and Nvidia GPU computational visualization, configuring a workstation with Nvidia Quadro 6000 and Tesla C2070 GPUs, both featuring 6GB of memory to handle the very high resolution 6K images Mercedes Benz required, along with the 5GB of model and scene data they were supplying.

Patton says: "After I finished my first full Mercedes Benz project with the new Nvidia setup, I was stunned. Rendering out the images at 6K in the past took me about an hour per image using the CPU. With iray and Quadro, I was able to knock that down to eight minutes! It's a huge benefit to be able to turn things around that much faster."
Since he began using iray with Nvidia Quadro 6000 and Tesla C2070 GPUs on the Mercedes Benz project, Patton's renders have been running up to 7.5X faster than they had on mental ray and V-Ray running on the Intel Core i7 960 3.2GHz CPU.
In addition to the speed improvements achieved with Nvidia GPU acceleration, Patton also realized improved clarity and detail in his images thanks to the photo-realistic capabilities of Nvidia iray. "The glass, the headlights--you can see every detail," says Patton. "I wasn't able to get that before without using really high sampling rates in other programs, and even then I couldn't pull out all of the details I can see now. There was a huge increase in clarity and detail that iray was able to pull out."

Nvidia iray also saves Patton time during the scene setup and render configuration phases of his workflow. "With iray I can just set my glossy material value to what I want and move on. I don't have to spend time configuring material and light sample values to balance grain and render speed or adjusting overall image sampling."
Since all his image processing now takes place on the GPU, Patton can use the CPU for other tasks. "In so many ways, iray running on the Nvidia GPUs allows me to work faster and create higher quality images. I'm handling more images in less time, and I can do more things with that time I save--whether it's taking on more work or spending more time with my family. The GPUs have made such a dramatic impact on my work. It's such an impressive increase in both detail and speed. The Nvidia GPU hardware and iray are an amazing combination. I can't wait to see how much further they develop in the future."

2012 Audi R8 GT

Wörthersee, Austria – Over the last few years, the R8 has helped Audi carve out a prime spot for itself in the high-end sports car market. With its striking looks, V8 and V10 engines and all-wheel drive, the R8 is a member of a very select group of exotic cars – especially the R8 5.2, which is at the apex of the Audi pyramid, at least for the time being. With the new GT version, Audi’s quattro GmbH division is raising the bar a notch. This car is made for clients who like to take part in on-track test drives. That’s why the GT is both lighter and more powerful than the R8 5.2.

The R8 GT has a thinner windshield, the rear window and the bulkhead that separates the cockpit from the engine bay are made of polycarbonate, the rear hatch is made of carbon fibre as opposed to aluminum, and the fixed rear wing is made of carbon composite and is 1.2 kilograms lighter than the removable deflector on the conventional R8. But that’s not all. The exhaust system is both thinner and lighter, the engine’s underframe is made of magnesium and the designers even decided to use shorter cropped carpeting. The result is that the R8 GT weighs 1,525 kg – that’s 100 kg less than the R8 5.2.

Internal strife
A recalibration of the electronic engine control has helped increase the power to 560 hp, which is exactly the same as the Lamborghini Gallardo (although the Italian brand can still claim supremacy over the German with its Superleggera, which produces 10 more hp and is lighter to boot). As both Audi and Lamborghini belong to the Volkswagen Group, the marketing and public relations divisions of the respective brands take these subtle differences into account, but in real life, there is no clear advantage.

Right from ignition, the V10 comes to life with a rich and low sound that seems louder in the GT than in the R8 5.2. As soon as you get on the Autobahn and rev the engine to 5,000 rpm, the engine sound becomes a veritable scream until it reaches the 8,700 rpm limit. Meanwhile, the car is literally catapulted forward with significant – and addictive – force.

Quick, the S-tronic!
As for performance, this car is absolutely brilliant. There are doubts, however, about the single-clutch R-tronic gearbox, although it still changes gears faster than a conventional manual transmission. That said, it is neither as fast nor as smooth as the Audi’s dual-clutch S-tronic. Note that the brand’s engineers are currently developing a dual-clutch gearbox capable of dealing with the R8 engine’s power and torque, but it’s unlikely that it will be available on these cars for another year or two.

On the German and Austrian backroads between Munich and Wörthersee, the R8 GT proved to be more direct and more precise in quick turns and demonstrated less understeer than the R8 5.2. Indeed, the GT’s all-wheel drive sends only 15 percent of the torque to the front end in normal circumstances, which means that 85 percent of the toque is delivered to the rear wheels and that the GT handles a lot more like a rear-wheel drive than an AWD.  The internally-ventilated and drilled ceramic composite brake discs are extremely powerful and easy to adjust, which is not the case with certain rival brands.

Sporty luxury
The R8 GT’s passenger compartment sets itself apart from other R8s with the addition of white dials bearing red GT logos, carbon fibre and aluminum accents, and a superb Alcantara steering wheel with paddle shifters. Despite its more radical personality, the R8 GT is still equipped with air conditioning, a navigation system and a high-end audio system. In Europe, specialized equipment like a roll cage, racing seats with safety harness and fire extinguisher attached to floor on the passenger’s side can be ordered on option. This equipment will not be offered in Canada.

Exclusivity is guaranteed since Audi will only build 333 units of the R8 GT for the global market, and only 25 of these cars will be sold to Canadian buyers for a price of $228,000, some $55,000 more than the price of a R8 5.2. Sorry to disappoint you, but all those cars already have takers. However, you’ll be happy to learn that Audi just announced that it will market a Spyder version of the R8 GT that will be just as exclusive with production also limited to 333 units.
Test Drive Report:
Test drive vehicle: 2012 Audi R8
Trim level: GT
Price range: $228,000
Price as tested: $228,000
Competitors: Aston Martin Vantage, BMW Série 6, Dodge Viper, Ferrari F458 Italia, Jaguar XK, Lamborghini Gallardo, Mercedes-Benz Classe SL, Nissan GT-R, Porsche 911
Strong points:
  • 560 horsepower!
  • Lighter version
  • Recalibrated all-wheel drive
  • Guaranteed exclusivity
Weak points:
  • Limited distribution
  • Astronomical price
  • Limited cargo volume
  • Poor rear visibility

2015 Toyota Supra

The Supra was a sports car produced by Toyota from 1979 to 2002. Its demise was due to restrictive emission standards, and it went away quietly into the night. Or did it? Rumors have been suggesting that the Supra name would be making a comeback and the fact that Toyota has just renewed the "Supra" trademark registration that expired back in 2006, leads us to the one logical conclusion: we will soon be able to drive around in a Supra again.
This evidence may all be there, but no one should expect the Supra anytime soon as Toyota is still busy fiddling around with their version of the FT-86. As if trying to outdo Subaru’s FT-86 wasn’t enough - Hey Toyota, good luck with that - Toyota is also planning on a new MR2 rumored to debut in 2013. So the Supra will be anything but chilling on the backburner until about 2015.
The last generation Supra was powered by a turbo engine with an output of 320 HP at 5600 rpm and 315 lbs-ft of torque, but don’t expect the same to happen with the next generation Supra.

New 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Stuttgart, Germany • Mercedes-Benz is celebrating its 125th birthday this year. And as with any person or company that reaches an advanced age, the question that is always asked is what is the secret to such a long life? Centurions often answer that it’s about eating right and exercising, or even taking a drink now and then. But in the case of a car company, there can be only one answer: Build products people want.
These were my thoughts as I sat through the technical presentations for the 2012 M-Class (also called the ML). This SUV is now going into its third generation, having entered the market in 1997 and to date selling more than one million models. Obviously, it’s a vehicle people want.

As I listened to engineers describe its newest features and innovations, often in techy engineer-speak, I noted that they always referred back to the customers’ needs/wants. And that got me thinking how important it is for a company to have a rock solid agreement on what a new vehicle is meant to be. In fact, before a new vehicle design even makes it on to paper, there has to be a meeting between the engineers, executives, marketing people and, of course, the designers. The subject? Intent. What does this vehicle intend to be? Who are we building it for? And how do we reach that goal? Total consensus among all the players on these points is crucial. Fail and ghastly automotive mistakes can occur —history is full of them.
So, it’s heartening to see that, 14 years later, the M-Class intent has remained the same. It’s a practical vehicle with a luxury side. And, if anything, the luxury side is getting a boost in this newest M-Class with several all-new interiors and increased ride comfort. It also has improved off-road ability and power and fuel economy improvements in the double digits.
Thomas Merker, chief engineer for the M-Class, put it this way: “We want nothing less than the best SUV in the market”. And that is the clear Mercedes intent for this truck.
The target competition is more than plain: Land Rover, Porsche and Audi are being challenged. For buyers, it’s better to focus more closely on the sub-categories that make up Merker’s overall goal. There are four:
1. Safety This time around, the M-Class has increased its focus on what Mercedes calls the “pre-crash phase” of an accident. Its sensors detect an impending crash and do things such as cinch seat belts tight, activate side or window air bags first (as in a rollover), close windows and adjust front-seat travel.
2. Fuel economy It has been improved, with a claim of the best-in-class fuel economy with the new ML250 BlueTEC 4Matic. This diesel-powered truck is said to get an average of six litres per 100 kilometres. Even the gas engines (V6 and V8) will be much improved. How? The M-Class now comes with an auto start/stop function, electric power steering, 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission, reduced A/C and alternator belt drag, lightweight aluminum and magnesium components and low-rolling resistance tires. These items, plus engine improvements, can net as much as a 36% improvement in fuel economy over the outgoing models.
3. Off-road performance Even with this frugal nature, the M-Class was always intended to handle off-roading and the new model does that and more with the addition of some new features. First, there’s a full air suspension system that can change vehicle height and adapt to changing terrain. Parts of this system react automatically, while a selection dial in the cabin also allows manual selection. Downhill speed regulation increases rough terrain control and onboard sensors display a wealth of off-roading data on the console-located navigation screen. This includes angles, ride height, speed, lean and yaw. Real-world testing took place in South Africa, Norway and the deserts of Namibia.
4. Luxury This element has been there from the beginning. However, this will be the most stylish, upscale truck yet.
An all-new dash and instrument cluster incorporate materials such as leather and wood (unvarnished) to create a sweeping, powerful, wide cockpit, and seating (four choices) have innovative styles, including a sports seat that looks like a muscle-bound six-pack. High-gloss silver switches are large and precise as is the refined yet rugged feel of every material inside. The latest in navigation, infotainment and command controls simply add to the feeling of confident elegance for which the M-Class strives. Four separate interior design schemes will be offered.
Production of this new M-Class is gearing up for a world launch. While it’s distinctly European in thinking and design, it’s being built only in Alabama. This one plant will supply the world.
An interesting side note is that, in Germany (and much of Europe and Asia), the size of the SUV market has doubled in just the past 10 years.
We’ll have a chance to drive this new Mercedes M-Class come summer, and trucks should start to arrive in the fall.

New 2012 Mercedes Benz C63 AMG Tuned By Romeo Ferraris

VIEW DETAIL :
alian tuner Romeo Ferraris has released a tuning kit for the high performance Mercedes Benz C63 AMG. Dubbed as the “2012 Mercedes Benz C63 AMG Whitestorm”, this package has redefined the style and performance of the car.
The tuner has done a good work upgrading the performance of the car by remapping the ECU, adding new exhaust and suspension systems. The tweaking of the 6.2 liter V8 engine and exhaust system improves the power output from 457 hp (301kW) to 540 hp (341kW). The stock exhaust system is completely replaced by the tuner with its high performance parts, including the manifold, which contributes in the improved power output of the engine. With such impressive power statistics, this car sprints from 0-100 km/hr in mere 4 seconds- a 0.5 second improvement over the production model. The car clocks a top speed of over 300 km/hr and crosses the 200 km/hr mark in only 12.5 seconds.
The visuals of the car are also upgraded by the tuner. As the name “Whitestorm” suggests, the car is covered in a matte white paint job. A contrasting black grille along with black fog light surrounds, front spoiler side vents, and a black diffuser enhance the sporty look of the car. The wheels are also in black contrast with a five spoke design. The tuner has fitted the car with its own superlight 18 inch racing rims weighing only 10 kg each. A carbon fiber roof and trunk lid lip complete the exterior package.
The interior package includes leather seats, steering wheel, door panels, arm rests and gear shifter- all in red color. The rest of the interior is covered in black. Overall, the tuner has done a terrific job with its new tuning package.

Ferrari FF Makes Its UK Public Debut At The 2011 Goodwood Festival Of Speed

MARANELLO – June 17, 2011: Ferrari is proud to exhibit its new flagship V12 four-seater, the FF, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, alongside the front engined V8 California and the mid-rear mounted 458 Italia.
The FF ushers in an entirely new GT sports car concept and represents not so much an evolution as a true revolution with the Prancing Horse’s first ever four-wheel drive system. The FF is the first road car to take drive to the front wheels from the front of the crankshaft, rather than through a separate transfer case. The innovative and patented 4RM system weighs 50 per cent less than a conventional four-wheel drive system and ensures perfect weight distribution (47:53) for the optimum driving performance that clients expect from a Ferrari, even for a Grand Tourer with four seats.
Exceptional performance comes courtesy of the new 6,262cc direct injection engine which develops 660hp at 8,000 rpm. In tandem with its transaxle dual-clutch F1 gearbox, stunning acceleration (0-62mph in 3.7sec) is guaranteed.
Ferrari’s new flagship V12 four-seater melds to an unprecedented level an extremely sporty, high-performance character with incredible versatility, superb comfort and sophisticated elegance, guaranteeing both driver and passengers an absolutely unique driving experience.
Also taking part in the event is the Ferrari 458 Italia, an 8-cylinder two-seater berlinetta with a mid-rear mounted engine, which represents a genuine break with the past in terms of Maranello’s previous high-performance sports cars. Designed to fulfil the expectations and ambitions of our most passionate clients, the 458 Italia continues the Ferrari tradition of putting the thrill into driving as a result of track-derived technological innovations.
Thanks to a 4,499cc V8 engine, which punches out 570hp, the F1 dual-clutch gearbox and a 1,380kg dry weight, the 458 Italia boasts an extraordinary weight-power ratio of 2.42 kg (a power-weight ratio of 413 hp per ton). This means it sprints from 0 to 62 mph in under 3.4 seconds and hits a maximum speed of over 203mph.
The 458 Italia on display this year at the Festival of Speed will be a “bi-colore” Rosso Fuoco (dark red) car with a Nero Daytona roof (black). This car encapsulates the racing pedigree of the 458 Italia with the full carbon-fibre interior and exterior packages, including carbon-fibre rear diffuser, side sills and F1-inspired front winglets.
The Ferrari California is the Prancing Horse’s first front-engined V8 which shares styling cues with one of the greatest designs from Ferrari’s history, the 250 GT California. The new California, however, is packed with the latest technology and includes Ferrari’s first application of the dual-clutch 7-speed gearbox, a direct injection 4.3 V8 engine with 460hp, the latest F1-Trac traction control system, multi-link rear suspension, and, of course, an innovative retractable folding hardtop that opens or closes in only 14 seconds. The California has already received the critical acclaim of the automotive press around the world, with Top Gear claiming it is a “proper God’s honest, marrow-deep Ferrari”, and Autocar describing it as “absolutely bloody marvellous!”
The Ferrari California on display at Goodwood features a “bi-colore” roof, with the car painted in Tour de France (dark blue) and the roof and A-pillars in Grigio Titanio (Silver) to echo the tradition of bi-colore berlinettas of the 1950s and 1960s. The car on display in the Supercar Paddock also features host of extra factory-fit options from the Carrozzeria Scaglietti Personalisation Programme, such as diamond-stitching on the rear seats and Cavallino stitching on the headrests.
